Would it be ok to plant spuds in cleaned coal bags?

I will be planting spuds down on the allotment but would like a couple at home, mainly to watch. Would it be ok to use a couple of washed clean coal bags?

as long as the sunlight cant penetrate through and there is suitable drainage, then I dont see why not.
