 got some first earlies chitting away and the have some great purple chits on the but they seem to getting softer is that normal

My chitting spuds often go a bit soft but not been a problem for me.

Spuds are tubers which are produced as a food source to feed the shoots and roots until they in turn can start producing food themselves.

Clearly when chitting some of these reserves are used up so the seed starts to soften and shrivel. No problem!
