Hi,

I have just bought a large walk-in plastic greenhouse, would this be classed as a cold-frame or a greenhouse?

I know it sounds like a daft question but i dont know what sort of temperatures it will reach and if i will be able to germinate any seeds in it... it felt pretty warm in there today but i guess that was because there was quite a bit of sun??

It would be classed as an unheated greenhouse 

You can plant seeds that are hardy in it for a bit of start, like radishes, and leeks in trays,  but I would avoid giving cabbages or similar plants any protection or they get very leggy. Treat these tough   

Lettuces and sald leaves will do well right now, but don't let them burn in the sun during the day -- easy done

I have already got some cabbages in there but currently they are not germinating... could it be cause it is too warm? shall i take them out and leave them on the patio instead or will the frost stop them from germinating?

i have also got a tray of onion sets in there but they dont seem to be germinating either

Neither cabbages or onions sets need any heat or protection tbh

Trouble is, they then grow too quickly and topple over, making spindly plants that never recover.

Some people do start off their onion sets in a cold greenhouse, in pots and then transplant them out, but I never have bothered and they grow just fine.

Save your indoor space for those what needs it is my advice
