I planted out some beetroot grown in modules = instant success!

Put in more gladioli for cut flowers (using odd spaces for short rows)

Weeded with the swoe, watered (as we've had no rain for yonks)

Cut the edge of the grass paths

Generally relaxed - it was so quiet by 9 pm  :)

Such a perfick day yesterday. Weeded in amongst onions, garlic, shallots. Planted additional carrot seeds and interplanted with small 'Lidl' onions and a few marigolds, looks tidy now. Getting runner bean bed ready for planting. Ah feels like summer will be here soon! 8)
I'm queen of my own compost heap and I'm getting used to the smell.

Of to the plot in a minute to plant beans direct, after this year will plant more stuff direct in soil.  :)

No more frost in your area?
I planted the seeds 2 inchs deep then covered with a layer of well rotted manure that should keep them insulated till they pop up,  :)
checked the weather sites they show reasonable night time temps, Also planted leeks out and planted the 5 raspberry plants another plot holder gave me  :)

So far was looking for a missing chicken at 6am.  Someone had let them all out in the middle of the night and my wife's favourite has gone.  She would not have wandered so I figure she was taken, and not by a fox.

I now know what my work for today is going to be.........apart from cursing people and comforting my wife.

so sorry, I hope the missing one turns up - she could be hiding too frightened to come out. People are such idiots (wanted to put stronger words there but this is a family forum).

Thanks Joyfull, I know exactly what you mean about language.

Unfortunately the missing girl is the friendliest and all the others were together waiting to be let back in.

Down the allotment, we finished building our fruit cage today (see separate blog!) and I've planted three short rows of swede seeds.  The potatoes are all in and the first couple of rows are beginning to show. Our autumn raspberry canes are looking good. The grandchildren built two wigwams yesterday and planted runner beans, and also a row of peas, before losing concentration and helpfully breaking down some of the larger clods of soil on other parts of the plot.  We've also got a couple of short rows of beetroot, some carrots showing. All the onions are in, plus some shallots.

Loads of seedlings are coming on nicely at home in my modest little plastic greenhouse ....leeks, caulis, brussel sprouts, red cabbage, purple sprouting, sweetcorn, celery. Loads more beans cos the kids got carried away ... the allotment's going to look more like an American Indian village than a veg garden ....  and four different types of courgette although nothing's showing yet. Not to mention lots of flower plants ... destined to glam up the allotment as well as provide lots of colour in our little back garden.
Still glowing, still growing, still going strong!

Panic over

I read this without first scanning the other posts and, for a minute, thought a "girl" was missing   ... eventually realised it had feathers!  ::)

Planted one sweetpea and a runner bean plant to scramble up the shed from a trough.

A bit of watering where needed and of course weeding.

Checked my comfrey stills and they were full so bottled the proceeds for future feeding. Cut some more Comfrey to top up the tubes.

and of course weeding

Ugh... cream crackered.     Spent the entire day digging over the grassy end of the plot.  I've cleared quite a bit, and done a bit of watering and weeding, but that was about it.  Harvested a very wonky looking cabbage to give the others some space.  Have heaps of stuff I need to be planting out, so hoping it stays nice so I can get some work done in the evenings over the next week.  In other news, picked up a nice 'Dig for Victory' mug in the sales.
