Morning Plum, it's absolutly sodden. I cannot see me doing much except trying to lay a base but the soil just sticks to my boots. Hence unworkable.

hmmm. it's not great is it? Will be able to get some of my shallots in as I can kneel on the paths. I have just checked them in the greenhouse and they have got fantastic roots. Very frustrating isn't it?
small, Welsh and almost certainly bonkers, but can be tamed with Talisker, if required

Had a dry day -- sowed peas, mange tout, broad beans and planted the rest of the onion sets and shallots.

Also made two more raised beds, captured precisely 40 wireworms in my digging and raking, which I fed to the chooks along the way .

40 wireworms between 13 hens doesn't go far I can tell you

very satisfying day.  sowed 6 rows of spuds (earlies, mains and salads) , dug out huge tree root which the previous occupant had left buried beneath the surface , and prepped the ground for tomorrow to put in my raspberries and gooseberries.  Weather's been dry in my little corner of south east essex, so all's good for the morrow....

Cleaned out the chicken pen, watched the beehive a bit, brushed up in the greenhouse, watched the beehive a bit more, shredded some prunings, watched the beehive again, sowed some seeds and watched the beehive for a bit.
So, mostly sitting and watching the beehive!

Very nice..... I looked at DD's pea frame, thinking of doing the same for my peas this week.

Nice work Dave (but how do you stop the soil falling out?  ;) )
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

We seem to have done so little so far this year.

We did manage to get some onions and garlic in a while ago and today managed to get a couple of rows of potatoes in and also some lettuce seed.

Nothing much will happen now until our plug plants arrive in a couple of weeks.  We dont have a greenhouse so struggled with seed last year and have opted for lots of plug plants this year.
I always find that work gets in the way of life.

Today we planted 2 more rows of potatoes, Rooster and Blue Danube, did a lot of hoeing, ,dug up a thousand very deep rooted dandelions from the paths, and mavelled at how quickly everything is bursting into life! Oh and I put a rubber snake in my cherry tree to deter the birds.
