I shifted a few tons of soil one way up the field, and a few tons of bricks on the return journey ... doesn't help that the field has a dip, so both ways is uphill :(

Bad news is, the bricks are gonna be used to build a wall and irrevocably convert one of our greenhouses into a store room :(

Good news is, the wall will shade a bed, so I'm allowed to grow food in it permanently because it's not good enough for dahlias :D

Better news is, the soil that was dug out for the footings is now in a huge heap on my wet veg beds in the (far) corner of the field ... when I get the energy I'll level it out and hopefully raise the height by 6" or so :D

Doesn't make me feel any less knackered though :tongue2:

I cut the hedge hard back today (with my new pruning saw :D ) the patched up polytunnel (lots of gaffer tape on the frame and clear tape on the poly ::) )can go nearer the side now and give me a bit more planting space. A productive day :D

No, no no...... I really shouldn't look at this....  :(

Such a lovely sunny day (managed to escape work for a 10 minute walk at lunch time) - but now it's dark and I would so have loved to cycle off to the plot when the sun was out...

Never mind... one of these fine days  ;)

12 working days and counting.....

How come 35.... nearly 36 years goes so quickly but 20 days appears to go so slowly?   ???

I planted: 1 bulb of forgotten Arno garlic, 2 rows of mixed salad leaves, 2 rows White Lisbon spring onions, 1 row scarlet globe radish and 1 row of choggia pink beetroot.
Checked on my other tubs of Solent Wight and Arno garlic and both are doing fine. Planted ten Russian giant sunflowers with my two young boys (I had to make up with my three year old after I grumbled at him for tramping over the raised beds and pulling up the seed labels for what I'd just sown, felt so guilty :-( ) all's well now though but boys expect a 6' flower overnight! Patience eh??!!

Added 6 wheelbarrows of compost from the heap to the plot, soil is so sandy it needs everything we can add. Made 2 potato trenches. Then sat in the sun lopping twigs into kindling ready for the woodburner. Now for a nice glass of wine me thinks.
The reward of a thing well done is to have done it....

Sowed my tomatoes, more sweet peas after seeing the overs come through and sowed some sprouts
