I put my onion sets in modules of compost in the potting shed for a couple of weeks just to encourage root growth seems to work.

must admit, having just got back from 3 hours on the lottie, that the cold wind was a demon! My legs are still cold, and I've been back in half an hour. brrrrrrr. Glad I went though - loads done, and nice to see everyone, even the grumpy old person on the first lottie  Because he is so grumpy, I take great pleasure in greeting him as if he were a sunny soul! It really confuses him!! ::)
small, Welsh and almost certainly bonkers, but can be tamed with Talisker, if required

I found some potatoes I'd forgotten. Opps

On the plus side digging is like cutting butter compared to last years mammoth task when I inherited my plot.

So I'm considering starting to plant there this week instead of sowing pots in the garden.

My water supply is in the form of a dyke or stream (run of from the canal) and I had great fun clearing it out so I can easily access the water later in the year.  Mud Mud Mud  :nowink: and I thought how smart our raised beds looked  :).  All ready for planting - can't wait.  Still a bit cold yet.  Gave the raspberries some chicken poo! to eat.

Planted my no-dig potatoes through their mulch of compost and planted onion sets.

Bitter cold wind though sunny.

I went plant pot shopping yesterday and found some cheapies in TK MAX (!) although I'm not sure if they are frost proof  and found some old flower buckets in Morrissons  :)

Today I collected a huge amount of lovely well rotted horse manure, dug it in to my beds and tucked them all in to warm them up nice for when I start to sow...in a few weeks!
I also made my first of 'Rich's paper pots' and sowed my sweet peas.

The sun only came out late afternoon but I soaked up as much as I could!

No allotment - but I grow veg in my back garden.

Lovely sunny day here in Southampton but cold in the shade. Got my potatoes chitting in the garage and sowed peppers and aubergines and put in propagators.

Also sowed red onions - had a great crop last year!

............ and "snap!"I also made my first batch of "Rich's paper pots" and sowed my sweet peas!

Spent a glorious 5 hours down the plot today, got some digging done, pegged out areas for potatoes and sprouts, sorted out the guttering for my second water butt and turned over a small area for my grandson, Dylan, to plant up. Took some sandwiches and a bottle of wine and brewed a damn fine cup of coffee. Blue sky, no clouds, first bit of warmth for months, and still someone walked by and said 'It'd be nice if this breeze dropped'. Yes, and it would be nice if my water butt filled with Rioja.

I walked 3 miles to my lotty today instead of driving,
Apart from the lovely sun I don't know what inspired me to walk, or didn't until I got there and found a flaggon of homebrew tucked away in the shed.
I had loads of plans for digging potato trenches but eventually got round to digging 1 out of the 10 or so I need and spent the afternoon sat on my rump chatting and swilling the scrumptious cyder I'd found,
Have not long since got back, the better half wasn't so impressed though.
But heh, what are sundays for :)
I'm banned for being obnoxious (not pompous as you might have thought)

washed the greenhouse....and I mean it was green

dug a trench for the asparagus...hopefully this 2nd lot will arrive mid march.  T&M advised there was a shortage or problem with their's.... nice if people are ordering the offer in GYO(which T&M are involved)  ???

Tidied up the shed and got rid of a large amount of bags...amazing how much of a hoarder I've become.

Put up some poles on the bean frame as the string last year sagged under the weight :)

I marked out my beds trying to achieve some structure this year so I've now got a path running down the middle with 7 4 x 12ft beds plus 1 slightly larger bed at the end which I plan my pumpkins to go in.

Need to section up the other half I would imagine I'll get another 6/7 beds in as the shed is this side so all in all I expect 15/16 4ft x 12ft beds.

Hopefully plenty of room for a carrot or two :D

Now just need to decide what I will use as paths certainly will not be carpet not sure if I'm ready to grass seed it yet??
