put my potatoes in at last, planted some carrot seeds in a large pot, more mixed salad in pots, broad beans and beetroot straight into the ground, chillies and butternut squash indoors on window sill. Pleased because I have recycled some 2L bottles, top half covering broad beans outside and bottom half covering chillies and squash indoors (mini propagators!!)

Built a frame from bamboo poles and netting and planted my giant climbing pea plants, only to be told by a fellow allotmenteer "that won't stay up in the wind" he then told me off for planting too many varieties of spuds and walked away laughing and shaking his head. :nowink: :nowink: :nowink: :nowink:
Hurray finally retired
two plots now 31A and 35A

I bought some of the more obscure varieties just to see what they were like, and he didn't think much of growing sweet potatoes either. :D

Wouldn't it be boring if we all had the same tastes and all grew exactly the same stuff, all allotments would look alike! ::) As someone who likes to grow something different every year in my tiny patch, I understand where you are coming from. As for trying something like sweet potatoes, you never know, we may have just the right growing conditions this year for a bumper crop. Just you make sure he gets some perfect examples as a thank-you for his valuable advice! :tongue2:

I've got all my compost bins dug out, mixed up and re-packed.  Yay!!!! :D

Not sure if that's the right terminology...but oh! the relief of having done it at long last!

Yesterday I planted peas, and made the support.  Sowed Carrots, Beetroot and Parnsips.  And a few more first early potatoes. :)

Sowed loads of peas into a spare raised bed - just for pea shoots (a marvellous, cheap and gourmet addition to salads)

Planted the rest of the parsnips.

Planted several varieties of carrots and this year rather than covering with fleece and a wall of fleece around that I have covered them with an enviromesh tunnel - should be well "sealed" enough now to stop the dreaded fly getting in...I can only hope.

Marvelled at the beauty of the asparagus spears just poking through. A stunning sight indeed.

Hid in my shed from one of the boys on the plot who likes to talk and make people know his opinion is definitive....saw him coming, chatting en route to others, so a quick "tidy up the shed" session was needed!!!!
