I've just been up to my patch for the first time in two weeks. Although the snow has almost gone, the paths are still covered in ice from the melting snow. Is really quite dangerous and with the rest of the plots being deserted, if someone had a fall there wouldn't be anyone around to help them.
The patch will still be there next week.  ;)

Me and the memsaab went down the allotment to move a surrounding wire fence from one bed to another to allow me to dig over the first.  On the way up we saw the pigeons had been having 'a nibble' at the Purple Sprouting Broccolli.

This bed has a 'cage' of scaffolding poles so we dropped the netting that has until now been rolled up.  Have we left the 'exclusion zone' too late or have the pidgeons done us a favour by prompting more side shoots when the time comes?  I suppose only time will tell. . .   Cheers,    Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

They have until February to recover - should be ok.  ;)

Demolished an old caravan and made a big fire, I needed the space for my new garden shed.

Dug up a few leeks; looked a bit battered in the leaf department but the business ends were fine!

Wished I'd dug up the Florence Fennel (a late-summer experiment!) They weren't massive but at least they didn't run to seed. Now they're just a soggy mess!
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

I have had a good session on the plot today. I spent the morning clearing the entire plot of left over produce (chard, celery, and beetroot) as the last lot of snow we had prevented me from doing this. i also removed all the dead annuals. I emptied 2 compost heaps onto the fruit bed, these are already full from the waste i removed earlier in the day. After lunch i returned to tidy the shed out so i am well pleased with myself.  ;) ;)

Not a lot today, I just emptied the compost caddy up there and then delivered the latest issue of our Allotment newsletter to our members.

I am beginning to get withdrawl sympotoms too.... weather has been reasonable for allotmenteering but the kitchen is 2nd on the list after my parents.

Roll on Christmas and I might be able to escape to the plot!!  ;)
