I had quite a productive day.. I got my shed built :D Its only a 6x 4 cheapy focus job but will serve its purpose!

Also planted out a couple of rows of onion sets (both red and white).. will give it a couple of weeks then plant the rest of them.

I also noticed my raspberries (only planted a few weeks ago) are throwing up a couple of fresh canes and im very happy to see the garlic shoots appearing too :D

Tired now so a beer and then probably bed  ::)

built cold frame
constructed bean cane and string thingymajig
moved strawberries from home and planted in allotment
sowed a few more peas
sowed a few more radish
sowed a few more parsnip

viewed whole allotment site and was very proud that mine was the first and only site with anything green showing - garlic, onions, radish.......and as this is a brand new allotment association its great to see everyone working hard, mucking in and getting too know each other.

I love my new hobby and my new allotment.....
its nice to be important, but it more important to be nice......

Threw away all the cheap, useless compost (49p) and sowed fresh tomato, basil, French marigold and celariac seeds in trays in the poly tunnel.
Removed a lot of chickweed and dandelions and tidied up generally.
Also planted two rows of Ulster Prince potatoes, but lots of my seed potatoes have rotted, probably down to frost or more likely a dodgy source! So tomorrow I shall be looking for more first earlies. >:(
The lady in the next plot gave me a gooseberry bush and a rhubarb crown, duly planted!
And I spread a few flower seeds around my bumble bee area! Also some Lavender Vera to combat the smell of horse manure!
Areas earmarked for cabbage, cauli and celariac.
Could just do with a nice day tomorrow now! 8)

Had a fantastic day - manged to get out there in the sunshine at 10 and stayed out all day til 5.  The kids even managed to spend all afternoon with me without getting bored (there were lots of kids there so they all ran about having lots of fun :) - and they helped me with some of the sowing.

Dug the rest of my carrot bed
Dug/weeded the asparagus bed - they should arrive soon :D
Finished digging the onion bed and planted out all my onions and shallots
Sowed some peas (Waverex) and broad beans (Medes)
Sowed my parsnips (Tender and True) and carrots (Parmex)

I feel like I got loads done.  I still have half of the brassica bed to dig and also the bit where the squashes will do, but progress is being made.
 :D

Is there such a thing as a cheap shed these days? Is it me or have they shot up in price? Last year when I wasn't looking for one they were cheap, now I'm looking for one they are expensive

Dug up the last of the parsnips and carrots, laid out some pallet collars to extend their raised bed. Dug and sieved out eight buckets of flint and stones from the new bed and added six bags of sharp sand. Worth the effort - yeah, first time I have been successful with carrots and the parsnips were so straight and sweet. :D

Sowed a row of beetroot, spring onion and radish. :)

Nattered to some old friends, flicked some tasty bits to the Robin, but he is still a bit shy, it was such a nice day my face feels all tingly (must remember to get some sun screen) and strangely I don't feel a bit tired.  8)

Removed another couple of tarpaulins which had been covering the plit over winter, Dug over 1 bed ( 1/10 of the plot ), weeded some of the asparagus bed, weeded round 2 of the Rhubarb crowns, helped my wife set up a metal frame thingy for sweet peas.  Found lots of shoots on the gooseberries and blueberries too

Such a busy weekend!! Planted peppers, tomatoes, squash, sweetcorn, broad beans and sweet peas in modules on the windowsills. Planted carrots, chives, red spring onions and nasturtiums outside. Also night flowering phlox and nicotiana for the bees  :D

And sat and admired my aubergines, chillies, basil and marjarom that have all been planted inside over the last couple of weeks and came up over the weekend  :D  :D  :D

A lovely day yesterday, sunny and dare I say warm. And so my first earlies went in, as did the bare rooted fruit trees - just in the nick of time I reckon as they are starting to wake up.
I hoe, I hoe, it's off to weed I go.

Great weekend.

Bean trench started..3/4 way dug. Cardboard already in the shed and one of my compost bins inspected and turned over in readiness to be used in the trench. Didn't finish as mains water not turned on yet.  ::)

Toms sown into modules. As were cucs. Lettuce into long deep pots.

Blue Danube spuds into large pots plus an old butler sink. These will hopefully be for the show table with Winstons.
Top tip for camping....don't go.
