when is the best time to plant toms, spring onions, lettuce, chillis, etc....would i just buy them packets from the local garden centre..

Hi

It depends where you are, but you can plant many toms in late spring or early summer outsite after the last frost, earlier in a greenhouse (there are some toms you can only grow successfully in a greenhouse). Chillies the same, but it is better to have them in a greenhouse as they like it hot and sunny. Lettuce and spring onions can be sown outdoors from mid march.

Hi Veggies, there are lots of pages on this site dedicated to when and how to grow veg.  Your best bet, in my opinion, is to spend only £5.99 and buy a copy of Vegetable Growing Month by Month by John Harrison (who also runs this site).  Really useful when considering what to grow and when.
