« on: February 26, 2010, 18:40 »
my veggie garden in the back garden is a bit limited and i have no room for comfrey or pumpkins wouls it be okay to plant them in my fathers horse paddock, would the horse be okay if he ate the keaves of the plants? (he had a good go at my brocolli last year and was fine >:( )

Why plant things in the paddock when you just KNOW the horse will eat them? :D

Some people grow comfrey especially for their horses.  I gave up on this idea when a horse broke down the fence two years running to get at it!

If the horse does not eat the pumpkins he will certainly stomp all over them.

Why not cordon off an area where the horse can't get to the plants. It's no use saying to a horse, don't trample my pumpkin or eat my comfrey. Perhaps your dad could let you have another bit of land besides the paddock. Or how about putting your name down for an allotment.
There is no better show of antisipation than a man sowing seeds in a field.

It will be well worth the effort when you get to eating all those lovely home grown vegetables. And who knows you might win a prize for growing a monster pumpkin. What part of Ireland are you?
