One of my courgettes seems to be predominantly male flowers, ie flowers on stalks with no fruit growing behind.  Do I have to do the nitty gritty with it, or should some female flowers and fruits come along.

For some reason, the thought of doing this brings dodgy music to mind!

  I don't know to be honest, mine always seem to have loads of male flowers and not so many female, I've always assumed that they produce more male flowers at the beginning of their fruiting season.  :?

Perhaps the male flowers are getting there first ready to pounce on the females when they emerge.

hmm, have just tucked them into the greenhouse, prior to planting out, and gave them a bit of a pep talk; no diagrams yet though!

Still, I suppose courgettes know what they're doing otherwise they'd be extinct.

Hi Sally A.  I grew courgettes for the first time last year.  They started off slowly and unpromisingly and by the end of the season I was sick of the sight of baby courgettes.  Just left them to it and mother nature did the rest.  Lots of food and water though.
Cheese makes everything better.

I might have known you'd be along soon, Ice.  Any thread with smutty suggestive overtones, eh?
