I put some lettuce seeds into biodgradeable pots and into the propagator exactly 40 hours ago. I checked them  just now, they have germinated and sprouted, now half an inch high and the start of the first pair of leaves is visible.

amazing.

They'll be weak & leggy then.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

You can try & rescue these by getting them somewhere cooler & sticking some aluminium foil behind them to reflect the light, but I'd also be inclined to re-sow as a back up.

Mine have germinated quite happily in a frost free greenhouse. They took longer than 40 hours, but are quite sturdy.

wow for me!! I put aubs, chillies, basil and lettuce in the window sill pots on 7th Feb and all i have is
one small lettuce (not leggy) and two chillies till today.
but I am not trying to over heat the house and after DD's advise on my leggy cabbages (i had to chuck them away) I think I am playing a patience game. Just like batting in Test Cricket first day first session.
oh yeah the pun
probably they (seeds)  are not boycotting!!!!!
One kid is handful. Two kids.... Example for chaos theory. Hats off to my mum who managed three...

Just keep the scoreboard ticking over
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Lettuce - in a heated prop!!!

Madness

Mine have just sprouted in my unheated greenhouse - looking nice and sturdy.

Problem is, lettuce don't need heat!!! In fact, it doesn't like it at all.

Save the heated prop for peppers and chilis, that need the heat to break dormancy - even tomatoes don't need heated props.

Okay maybe it wasn't the ideal place to start lettuce seed, but just think you can start a new thread  "The Fastest Germination Of A Seed!!!"   see if anyone can beat you!!!
