Chicken or Duck Manure
« on: February 23, 2010, 14:55 »
Hi Guys and Gals,

I have been offered a trailer load of Poultry manure from a local poultry farmer, but am not totally sure which I should go for or whether I should ask for a mixture?

I have been offered Chicken and Duck Manure, so which do I choose? Which is best for the allotment and which will be worth getting?

I thought I would ask the bank of knowledge and see what is suggested.

Many thanks

Rob

Never used duck cack, but used chicken manure in pellet form for years. I am about to start chook keeping and the plan is to use their cack mixed in the compost heap.

Goodness - go for it. Great stuff mixed in with compost heaps - gets them heating up a treat. As said though, you need to let it rot down as fresh is too hot. But you never turn things like chicken or duck manure down. Ever. Or pigeon manure.

Thank you all, your advice and info is greatly apreciated.

I now just need to build some wooden storage holder type compost bins to hold it all in, because at present it is all sitting in a trailer on my driveway.

Best wishes,

Rob

Six pallets and some black plastic sheet and you're away.
