Last year I grew Shirley in my unheated Greenhouse and they were great.
i am not growing them this year but only because i have been given a free packet of another variety and thought i might as well give them a try.

But if I have to buy a packet of Tom seeds then it would be Shirley.

Grow well outside as well.

Seed isn't all that cheap, but you can easily make more plants by rooting the side shoots you take out.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

My dad swore by alicante for his greenhouse, but I don't think he ever tried to grow tomatoes outside so I don't know how they do.  His were heavy fruiting, nice round std salad tomatoes.

Having grown Moneymaker, Alicante and Shirley, I'm growing the latter, although Alicante have a better flavour than Moneymaker..

Sungold F1, Ailsa craig and Harbinger. The last two were freebies from Thompson and Morgan but i might invest in  some Shirley. All varieties are for both outside and inside (unheated) greenhouse!

The side shoots root remarkably easily as well.
DD are you talking about Shirley grows ok outside, I have never tried these as I thought they were green house ones, but if they are ok outside will give them a go, they should grow well here.

I am also going to grow orange banana not very abundant but nice and red alert the latter as they were so early last year.  The packet did say Red alert were early croppers and it was so, they also were very abundant, fairly tasty - well more tasty than moneymaker, and didn't exhaust itself being early was still abundant until the end of the season.

Growing some large plum type from the Amish lot in the States. Real Seed Company company selling them. Worth a go.

Yellow Brandywine which tasted great last year even though I didn't get a good crop. More down to me.

Black Russian as they look different

Shirley as everyone else does.

Tigarella as they taste great.

Tiny Tim for my baskets/pots

Will try Glacier later in the year for a longer cropping season.
Top tip for camping....don't go.

Does the packet give anymore names because pomodoro Italiano just means Italian tomato...no description, or variety name there.....very confusing

This year I have to grow some different ones.  My three year old nephew decided at the beginning of last summer that he didn't like tomatoes.  By the end of the summer he was eating them like smarties.  We had a lot of little ones ripening in my Mum's conservatory and every time he passed by, he would eat another one.  To encourage this I asked him what he would like this year and he said red ones, yellow ones, orange ones and stripey ones. So I will grow a couple of Cherrola (red), Venus (orange), Golden Cherry and Ildi (both yellow - diffierent shapes) and Tigerella.
