Thiram Advice
« on: February 22, 2010, 20:50 »
Hi

Advice please.

I have some Pimento Pepper seeds and it states on packet that they have been treated with thiram. Do I need to wear gloves to handle the seeds?

Thanks

If you google Thiram you will find that seeds treated with Thiram should not be used for human consumption. Google it and find out more.

Normally thiram is used to treat crop seeds against damping off, so I suspect that your pepper seeds must have a problem with that as well.
It's best not to directly touch the seeds as it can be absorbed through the skin and cause some minor complications in the first 24 hours. Best to use some form of tweezers to move the seed into pots, or, washable gloves such as painter's gloves. Definitely make sure no one eats any of the seeds nor inhales the dust coating.
