china eggs
« on: February 22, 2010, 20:35 »
Have just bought a couple of china eggs, as firstly I have given the chucks a new coop and I thought they may encourage my girlies to lay in the correct place and secondly I am hoping emma chicken will go broody for me at some point and leaving the china eggs in the nest box will give her some to sit on for starters, the clever part of the story being that my clever hubby has just painted them the same colour as emma's egg she'll never know the difference!

When they go broody I don't think they care what colour or even whose eggs they are  but I think it's really sweet that your hubby has been so thoughtful to do this  :)
When both of mine went broody one who lays dark eggs sat on some silkie cross eggs (small pointy and almost white) and the other who lays light brown sat on some very very dark brown copper black maran eggs. Both were just happy to sit on anything  :D.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Well it worked and she laid her egg in the correct place! Just fingers crossed she fancies playing mum again this year!
