Think I've only mentioned it a few times in  the last year! :nowink:

Put some behind the seedlings, it reflects the light back, nearly doubling it and helps prevent leggyness.

No need for fancy arrangements, just stick a bit under the tray to hold it down then bend the rest upwards behind it. A quick nip & tuck in the right place and it's self supporting.

Do a forum seach on "aluminium foil" & see how often it crops up.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Nah, that would never do ... needs remnants of a cardboard box and some duct-tape :)

Started my peppers indoors as they take ages and seem to be hit and miss with germination for me, and this week I am going to start my toms, spring onions, paris silver skin onions and celery. Spuds are a chitting.  I would have start the toms and peppers earlier but couldn't be bothered to go out and get some dirt in the cold and wet.

Several diff types of toms
Aubergines
Peppers
Aspargus
Cabbage
Cauli
Rocket
Lettuce
Broad beans
Onions
Shallots
Garlic
Melon

Starting off in thermostically controlled propagator, with growlight over top. And have a sand bench with soil warming cable in as a follow on when they are potted on.

The following do not need to be in a propagator, in fact you may regret it:

Cabbage
Cauli
Rocket
Lettuce
Broad beans
Onions
Shallots
Garlic

Nothing at all as yet!
Chitting potatoes though if that counts?

I haven't got a greenhouse , only the plastic variety which although useful for hardening off, is not really any protecton against the 'orrible weather we're getting.

I might start some seeds off indoors this weekend though but most will have to wait... but I still have lots of digging to do or they won't have anywhere to go come April/May!

 :D

Lotty holder since Aug 09... I've FINALLY finished clearing it! On with the p.lanting  ....

Spuds chitting in shed (well lit), autumn-plantic garlic and over-wintering onions looking well and seeds sown today/yesterday are:

Kitchen shelf
Tomatoes (Golden Sunrise, Tigrella, Marmade and a couple of varieties that my mum brought back from Italy)
Peppers (Romano and sweet mixed)
Aubergine Black Beauty
Cucumber

Cold Greenhouse
Caulis
Sprouts
Kale

Not done the tin foil thing, but will,  :)

My neighbours quizzed me last year about the exact Latin name for the plants growing rather prolifically on my upstairs windowsill (Cayenne peppers!)

(Didn't stop them asking for some fresh chillies later in the year though; cheeky b*ggers!)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Stilll not in the mood for seeds or any planting

Once it warms up they do so much better and you seem to get stronger, healthier plants so I have found no advantage to early sowings.

All ok I suppose for those with heated greenhouses or propagators.
