chrysanthemum, anyone ever grown from seed?
« on: February 21, 2010, 21:42 »
hi all,

been looking through some of my books and have taken a liking to rows of flowers iv seen on peoples allotmens so iv had a look and id like to start with chrysanthemums.

money is near non existant at the moment so cant afford to buy plants for a whole row so im thinking of trying from seed.

iv asked in the seed swap if anyone has any spare seed so just getting ahead of myself by asking about growing them.

many thanks in advance

nathan

Chrysants for cutting - no problems. A cheap packet of seed will provide you with a load of plants.

Seed tray, prick out...etc. quite simple.

Do NOT ask me about show flowers though!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

thanks dave,

no nothing for show, just a few to take home and something else to take pride in at the allotment.

Dahlias are good as well.

Had two rows across the plot last year - came from one packet of cheap seed.

Same principle - Late March - seed tray - warmish - pick out - 12 to a large seed tray - harden - plant out.

Yoiu know the drill. (Drill - see what I did there!).

Dahlias are good as well.

They sure are.... quite easy too  :)
Good advice as a cheap packet of seed will produce loads  ;)

I suspect Wilko's - a few years since I've grown them as I find dahlias much easier.

However - how about £2.20 for 12,500 seed - cheap enough?

Just seen similar on ebay - £1.20 for 50 seed. Someone's making a killing, that makes that packet from Mole's worth £300!!!

You can't have been paying attention!

Just had a quick search and I've mentioned them about 40 times - and no - I have no financial interest in them!

If you need a lot of seed, or can share with others, they take a lot of beating for price.
