Provided you keep them watered, I don't see why not.  I know a professional turf specialist if you'd like me to ask him.

I'd rake in some super phosphate before laying will help get the root stucture established quickly and like WG says keep watered.
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

That would be much appreciated WG. I am making a little area at the top of my garden to sit in and I think a little bit of lawn would be ideal. Is it best to cultivate the ground first? its bare earth at the moment and a little compacted.  :D

Yes dig it, treat it like a seed bed, tread down and then rake to a fine tilth.

My friend backs up what we say above : "There is no problem in laying turf just now or any time during the summer months, as long as they have plenty of water to soak it daily for at least 10 days to ensure rooting. The ground should be well prepared and firmed prior to laying the turf apply some pre-seeder fertiliser and lightly rake into the surface to add some nutrient to ensure good rooting is achieved.
When laying turf in summer you must soak the turves thoroughly not just a light water,as this always leads to the turves drying out around the edges and even curling up. I hope this helps."

Excellent, thank you very much WG, pretty much what I thought. I will do it soon, before the real heat arrives ( hopefully)... keep Mrs Bear happy too... (possibly!) :D
