Chicken Drinker in coop?
« on: February 19, 2010, 17:53 »
Hi everyone,

I have 2 chickens, and at night they are shut into a hut in which they cannot get out off, the drinker and food however i leave in the coop/run. Essentially what I am saying is they don't have access to water at night.

Should they, or does it not matter?

Thanks for your help.

they will sleep at night in the coop and dont really need water and food, as long as they are let out reasonably early in ther morning

make sure you put the food and water away otherwise you will have every rat from miles around coming to feast  :(

mine have water in the house 24/7 as they seem to like a drink with the last of the day treats { corn } before they go to bed , i throw in a handful of corn into the indoor feeders an they are always empty in the morning .

My hens don't have any water during the night.  Although the first thing they do in the morning is drink when they come out!
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

I always leave food and water just incase something happens and they don't get let out first thing. To avoid mess and spillage, the containers are cantilevered outside the coop proper. Easy for me as the coop is inside a shelter itself, but I guess that a side box such as some have for nesting boxes/egg collection would be fine.
