Buying a cloche
« on: February 13, 2010, 18:15 »
Hi everyone, i was in Wilko's yesterday and they have a cloch for £10, it's like a mini greenhouse about 4ft long i'd say with two openings at the front for easy access, clear plastic on a tubular frame, i was quite taken with it, has anyone bought one of these?Would like to know how effective it is. I'm of to view my new plot tomorrow  i feel a lie down coming on. :D :D

I seem to have major problems with cloches, no matter how well I put them up  they always blow off.

Congrats on the new plot, bet you don't sleep tonight  :D

I bought one last year - needed to weigh it down with bricks as it was getting blown all over the garden...

ok after that though - the opening are useful to air out on warmer days...

Congratulations on your plot  :D :D :D

I tend to use hoops made of polythene tubing (plumbing water pipe) with acover of clear polythene, weighted down with bricks at the ege, as these can be made the size to fit one of my beds.

The little cloches seem to blow away (as pther have said)  or not be tall enough IMHO.
The cover lasts a few years and is just made of opened out polywrap tubing stuck together  with clear duct tape.

Mind you, a little cloche well pegged down could be useful fro say early  lettuces or salad leaves

Hi redwine@roses - as cissie is not on line at the moment, I'll just say that her avatar is one of the standard ones that come as part of the forum package. It's just down as "Collie 1".

People often have their reasons for chosing them though.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
