hatching chicks from brother and sister?

Ok I have 17 chicks that are all from the same rooster .. Just wondering if one is a rooster would there chicks be deformed if i were to hatch there babies? because they are brother and sister?  :?:

Good question, and one I would also like to know the answer too, if anyone knows!!! I have 2 cockerels though, but still if I keep any cocks I might have as chicks at the min then they may well do their buisness with their brother/sister like you suggested. So I have often wondered. Plz help us out some1

you can hatch from brother and sister it is called line breeding however it is a sience that as not serious show breeders you are better staying away from as you say deformaties and bad faults can be bread in and exagerated. i would breed from brother and sister only once and then cull the brother and introduce new blood.

We covered this idea a while ago,but yes we think it's ok but remember to bring in new blood next year.

There won't necessarily be deformities - the chicks may well be completely fine ... but there's definitely more of a risk of there being something wrong. Inbreeding is never good because it means that the gene pool is restricted and therefore abnormalities can crop up.
