here we go again
« on: February 12, 2010, 17:19 »
2 chucks not well, a bit hunched up, still eating, but not as much as usual, poos seem normal, but a bit greener than normal, still pecking the grass etc, but have been standing about hunched up for the last 2 days, tails high but necks in.
they are halfway through a course of flubenvet, as they are out every day.

hope they are just a bit fed up, but they have both stopped laying, and their combs are a bit pale, should be used to this by now, but had hoped it was all behind me, but it may be coming back

it is very cold here again, and i am hoping that it is just the cold.

can you put any extra bedding in their coup to help them warm up or even bring the poorly ones inside Martyn?

Are they laying? if not can you feed them some chick crumb (seperatly from any laying girls because of the ACV) as they will eat this far more eagerly and it will help build them up.

they have a deep layer of hemcore in the coop since it became cold, and they spend quite a bit of time in the coop building deep nests during the day.

they have organic chick crumb with no addatives, as they are not laying, and a choice of layers mash or pellets down all the time.

i am not bringing them in, as i found the last time i had sick chucks that they did not eat, inside, but pecked when they were in the run where they were in more famliliar surroundings.

they have poultry spice in their poultry corn in the afternoon, and lifeguard in their water at all times.

they are also having sweetcorn in the afternoons to try to give them something.

the 2 poorly ones are also having antibiotics from today for 3 days.

dont think there is much more that i can do but sit and wait

after they have finished their course of antibiotics Martin (is it just 3 days left or a short course of 3 days instead of 7?) perhaps try them on avipro to replace the good bacteria that antibiotics can deplete from their gut. If you cant get that then a small amount of live probiotic yoghurt would do  :). Fingers crossed for you and the girls xx

val has said when these have gone that is it, no more, so it looks like chuck keeping days are nearly over unless she changes her mind.
