Help Please, Nell is Egg Bound
« on: February 11, 2010, 17:17 »
I can feel the egg, and she's just had a lengthy relax in a warm bath.

Is there anything else I can do for her?

First egg bound I've had to deal with, and not at all sure what I'm doing. :(

Panic over :tongue2:

I was just getting the hair dryer out to dry her up, and glanced into the emptied sink, and there it is!

The egg intact in its membrane, and the shell attached completely separate, all squished in a lump.  Weird?

Poor Nelly.  Anyway she'll feel much better now that's out.  And so do I.  I could cry I'm so relieved.

Should have checked the sink before I posted!  Tut.

I'll say.  She's had her supper and gone to bed in the utility room.  Much happier chicken.

Look at this!  Soft shells come detached and ended up in a separate lump, and the membrane is all dry and clingy, no lubrication at all.  Poor Nelly.

Glad it's all over.  Quick snack, a drink and a calcium tab, and then bedtime.

wow, clean sockets

utility room - sockets rarely get used, only for the microwave for warming up the girls mash!   And now, for Nelly's hairdryer.

Phew! Panic over.

Sounds like you had everything in hand. :D

This morning Nell is well and perky, though the utility room looks and smells like a barn (still got shiny sockets though!).

She is now back to normal and outside with the girls digging for worms.

But, if it happens again.  Is there anything else to be done apart from a hot relaxing soak?

I suppose this is the downside of ex-batts.  Lots of egg related probs.
