I have been boasting about the wonderful Greencone (which has been a previous topic on this forum),

http://www.chat.allotment-garden.org/viewtopic.php?t=3360&highlight=greencone

but have had an unexpected preditor attacking the below ground composter.  The all singing all dancing greencone which digests everything!!!, has obviously been sending out irrestistable smells to the fox population, and they have dug it up everyday for a week.  They keep digging it up for the smell they get once the below ground basket has been exposed, but have not been able to penetrate the basket.  Thank god!!!! so obviously it is fox proof (I hope).  I have now baracaded the area in quesiton with logs to prevent anymore digging, it will be interesting to see if they have broken through the stockade.  Check out my blog to see my cone!

Perhaps if you placed it on a piece of hexagonal-mesh chicken wire?  If the wire is a foot or so bigger all round then that should do the trick.

Would have to dig up and take the thing apart to do that, should have thought of that before I put it in the ground,  But so far so good with the logs, they have tried digging those up.  So I think Ive cracked it.  Fingers crossed

Ok.  If they suss out the logs, try a piece of chicken wire with a hole cut out for the cone itself.

I second laying some chicken mesh on the ground around your composter.  Mr Fox isn't bright enough to work out if he steps back a couple of feet and digs there won't be any wire impeding his progress.  I've seen this work around a chicken run and coop.
