Hi my first time growing Onions from seed. So far my seeds went in on Boxing day and are 1" tall, when is the time to pot them on? when the roots start to show under the seed cells? They are in a 66 seed cell tray. Thanks.

According to archaeologists the best time to pot on mammoths was a fair few thousand years ago
I'd go with "when they seem to be pot bound" ( mine were in 2"x2"x2" plug trays last year ... lived long enough to be planted )

Comedians!
I thought I read somewhere that they were not to get checked?
Not seen the 'Woolly' variety around.

If they are only 1in tall they haven't unfolded yet, so there's plenty of time yet

They came out of the hook weeks ago! about 2 weeks.
Germinated inside then put out in a cold green house .
Like blades of grass.

If they've straightened out aren't they bigger than 1 inch?

That little bit extra makes all the difference you know
as you thought ...I would pot on if the roots begin to show at the bottom, before it is time to plant them outside
