trusty tractor, trusty earthquake?
« on: February 01, 2010, 20:08 »
hi all,

wondered if anyone had or knew of where i could get some info on the trusty earthquake?

iv had one a while and thinking about doing a bit of work on it, change the chains and look into why the clutch sticks sometimes.

also one wheel is slightly in at the top and i think thats whats causing it to try and pull one way all the time

many thanks

Are you refering to a two wheel tractor with iron spade lugs, with a throtle control which is a wheel on the end of the handle...if so I had and used one to plough a field before I had my first T20.

A earthquake sold a while back on ebay, the guy had done loads to it. Even sourced new clutches.
Look forward to seeing it running.

gutted,

iv been looking on there for parts and one maybe for spares but ave never seen one on there.

im hoping i can get the bits back sat morning so will get it ing for sunday.

i had it out last sunday for a bit but didnt one of the chains where slipping, thinking it was just a streched chain was silly, today armed with a new chain found what could be the real problem!

the clutch was full of oil and grease so i cleaned it all up and rubbed up the plates ready for that to go on again.

any idea what oil to put in the gear box, and how much ?  didnt know if i could fill it right up?

thanks

From what I remember the two levers engage and disengage dog clutches to each wheel so you can turn the trusty ,if they are worn or sticking then they can cause problems

i got a standard transmision oil here, should be ok to fill it up with shouldnt it?

I would expect to find a level plug somewhere near the fill plug. HD90 or liquid grease would be fine in the box any thinner would possably leak out of a machine this old.

i will check what it is iv got.

there is only one plug, i checked it all over yesterday when i power washed the old gunk out.

it does have a dip-stick type thing on the plug but no marks on it.

hi,

well the clutch was full of oil/grease.  iv cleaned it all up and rubbed all the plates up so they are bright, clean and smooth so fingers crossed that should sort that problem.

im having a idler sprocket machined as when i replaced the villiers with the ohv engine i had to change the mounting position to get it in so making the chain that bit longer i think it needs something doing before i gain another problem due to tensioning problems.

the gearbox sprocket i have just got back today.

the guy who done it didnt have the right head for machining the bore to fit a splined shaft so he has put me some hardened grub screws in to act as the splines, it looks to fit great, will know more tomorrow hopefully get it all built back up clutch set and chains on when iv been back to collect the tensioner sprocket
