We get though about 12 x 32' rows. (3 of us).

Just depends on your appetite!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

we too are a family of four and i plant 1 lot (3kg bag) of firsts, 1 of seconds, and 3 of main crop plus a row of pink fir apples.

we have used all of last years except the pink fir apples, which i have about a sack left. we have potatoes abot 5 times a week too, sometimes 6. i am toying with the idea of getting some more first or second earlies though

To be on the safe side Id say 1 plant = 1 meal. 1 Plant = 1 seed pot.

Does that sound about right to the other less gluttonous growers?

I found Lardman's estimate to be about right. One seed spud would do one meal for me (a glutton!) the missus (not a glutton) and 3 girls 5,7,9 who eat what small girls normally manage.

I do eat loads - cant' beat a big bowl of mash in my view -  but I reckon one plant per meal sounds right. I always allow an extra row of mains to compensate for slug damage and holey spuds.

I think I had about 10x 3m rows with about 8 seed potatoes in each.  There is just the two of us and we have spuds about 4 times a week.  We still have a couple of weeks worth left.  We did loose a lot to slugs last year though. Also I don't think many varieties will keep much longer!
To answer your question more directly, you are probably looking at 125+. But that is a fair amount of room!

Incidently, I have found charlotte to be the longest keeping potatoes I have grown - they are still good now.  What varieties would other people recommend for long term storage?

You have to work out what you normally use, and that how much you plant, assuming you have enough room to grow it all.

For example.....do you eat 1 cabbage a week? If you do then you need to plan to plant , over the year..enough spring summer and winter cabbages to supply 52 in total. Only you know how much of each vegetable you want to eat :)

Pink Fir Apples store really well, but you've got to like the taste or the hassle of them will drive you nuts :D... Personally I love them, eier as a salad or as a jacket roastie, or as a jacket chip.... also good part roasterd then finished off with yorkshire batter poured over like a toad in the hole.....
