Light a candle and let the flame (or you can use gas flame) singe the hairy bits off....be quick though as you don't want to burn/cook bits of the chicken :)

Don't forget to take their inards out.  :)

Are you going to use heart, liver, gizzard and neck? Makes good stock.

Chicken liver, onions, garlic and chili. Delicious.

After singeing, we just go over the body with one of those cheap wash up sponges to take off any little black bits!  Looks nice!

I have to say Grannie, they don't look all that pretty, but there only for us, and sure they will taste nice, the RIR weighed in at 5lb 2oz so well pleased with that.

Don't worry Nails, you'll get better with practise!!!  And like you say, they are for your consumption, so who cares if they look a little rough round the edges?  They will be the best chickens you've EVER tasted!!!  Because you've grown them yourself!!!

The 2 RIR that i did were the best out the 4, hubby skinned one just to see how easy it was, took him longer to do that than it did for me to pluck one!! well all in the freezer now.
Grannie how much is a reasonable price to ask for one if anyone wants to buy one, next time we have some?
