But my neighbours is everything north/south.

Hope this helps  :D :D :D

I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

I just stick mine in any old where but avoid tall crops near each other so go for high with low on either side.... a bit of shade in our scorching summer to come might be welcomed!

I go north south and if possible with tall stuff at the north end or on the west side. I don't think it matters too much apart from with crops that have a long growing season.

I have my beds running north to south, and only plant tall crops at the north ends  and never in the bed that is in front of the greenhouse :)

North-South is the natural way of things (look in the mirror!!)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

The only time I really worry about this at all is when planting fruit trees that will stay in place for years...  and I check to see the climbing beans only cast shade on things that appreciate it... courgettes seem happy once they get going.
