Bean thinking!
« on: January 27, 2010, 12:09 »
I'm contemplating growing a row of dwarf beans this year which would hopefully start cropping before the trusty runner beans.

It would be nice if they were a bit more tasty and/or interesting than the Egyptian or Kenyan "fine beans" which the supermarkets insist of lumbering us with at this time of year.

Any ideas please?

Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

I always grow Delinel - good cropper and good flavour.  They freeze well and taste like fresh when cooked.

"Purple Teepee" for me. Nice looking plant & produce, beans produced above the foiliage so you can easily see them to harvest & are less prone to getting splashed by mud when it rains.

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I grow 'Delinel' for a first crop, started in rootrainers and Safari later on.  Safari does not set well early in the season.
