You'll be ok on the windowledge, but I hope it's a warm one for chillis and aubs.
The seed pkts will tell you when to start them for the variety you have.....seed pkts are always a good place to look for information :)

It's OK starting them off inside with no greenhouse, but consider if you can grow on what you've got without one.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I use my window sills for seeds (turning them regularly) and when the weather gets a bit warmer I move them in their trays outside to one of those shelf things with a clear plastic cover. You can remove the cover on sunny days to harden them off slowly then either put them in the ground/ transplant into 3" pots depending on type. I usually pot on tomatoes/beans/cougettes/peppers etc and plant out celeriac/leeks/cabbages/lettuce etc.
Many seeds should be sown in the ground when the time is right so seed boxes are unnecessary. Just read the blurb on the packet.

I start nearly all my seeds off in a pot of multi purpose compost with a plastic bag over the top, held in place with an elastic band.
This is then placed on top of one of the radiator covers for heat.
Once they have germinated i pot on and place on our sunniest windowsill and turn daily.
Never had any problems yet  ;)

As Mum and Vietta say, check the seed packets.  I don't have a greenhouse either, I usually start chillis in Feb (they like heat, use the airing cupboard if you have one, otherwise they take ages to germinate), toms in March and courgettes in April.  I don't grow aubs but prob April as well.  No point sowing them too soon before you can plant them out.

You don't need to turn them if you put some aluminium foil behind them.

Now there is an idea .....  I need a blind for the utility window (which is where I grow my seedlings.  If I get/make a roman blind and line the outside with silver foil ...  the silvered plastic that they sell for wrapping paper might be best ...   ???  I'm going to have to think about this......

I'm talking a piece of foil tucked under the seed tray, then folded upwards to a height of about 6" behind the seedlings - not a major engineering work!
