Parsnips
« on: January 21, 2010, 19:56 »
After the frost and snow i finally dug some parsnips that were meant for Christmas. They were a little dissapointing in size but had some new growth to the crown after being cut back by the frost.  Any point in leaving? will they bulk up a bit?

No, once they start to shoot again, they'll get woody & run to seed.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Growth should be slow at the moment, so no need to rush to eat them all, but come late February/March, they'll really go.

I promise that the other end of the tape measure is at the end of each parsnip

Dug up this weekend and now soup ... each weighed about 2lb or a bit more
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Not surprising; it's rumoured that it's actually DD's 11 month-old niece holding the parsnip!!  :D :nowink:
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

You often see `baby hands' in fruit and veg ad`s. :D

With gladiator parsnip you do not need them. :)

You lot obviously go fishing: - exaggerating the size, dodgy scales and using trick photography!!!
Very fine parsnips, well done.
Are they good to eat?
What’s the secret?
