You get cold winds on the east coast, its my opinion thats the problem. You may not save it, try fleece day and night .I've never had much success growing cucs outdoors and we're on the same latitude , more or less. So next time, grow in a greenhouse or plant in a cold frame in June and cover at night and on cold/windy/wet days.

They don't like wet stems.  If you've been watering up to the stem it will die off.

Otherwise, might be mosaic virus - this starts on the leaves.  Or tobacco virus - do you smoke roll-ups in the greenhouse?

That might give you a clue - if you've been growing the same crop in the same spot for years, pathogens have a chance to build up and become more virulent.  Might be worth not growing cues for a couple of years in the greeenhouse.

Not my  Marketmore this year.  Two left from five and one of them looking sick.  Same sort of thing really looking really healthy, small cucs forming,  then pale brown dry leaves then wilt.  No definative answer a to why really, just is.

Maybe its the warm days and cold nights.  And I'm not far from you Bognor Regis (well Felpham if I want to be a snob).

Check this site out and let us know whether any of the above disorders match.

I bet I know which one you come back with.

Out of my first sowings, I managed to cues saved tasy butpless from last year.  they were lovely plants, transplanted to a 5 inch pot and put in cold frame.  then something started eating them and then they went limp.  Second sowing started okay, but I had a slug in the greenhouse I couldn't find, and they went, now I have 2 left and someone gave me 3 today, they are tiny, don't know what they are, but she said they are outside cues, so fingers crossed!

Also I know its a bit late, but I planted loads of the saved ones last week, just in cse some come up!!!!
