having a clear out!
« on: January 21, 2010, 11:55 »
one of my hens - she's only just started laying a week ago - has started to get the straw from the hen house and taking it out in the run, leaving the hen house empty and the run a mess! why would she be doing this?

Has she been watching too many of those home improvement programmes?  Is she wanting the minimalist look or waiting for a complete re-decorate?  Pink for a little girl?   :D

Sorry - got coat and gone now!

thats chickens for you.

When we clean our house and re straw it 1 girl out of 12 decideds to go in and check, sadly she also kicks out 40% of the straw. But she has grown out of this appart from every so often when the mood hits her.

They dont half make you laugh!!!

I love to watch the hens come in and inspect what you're doing when cleaning them out. There's no room in there for us all  :D They don't half chunter as well   :D

I never get the coop right for them.  Now I just dump the trug full of bedding in the middle in a heap, and they sort it out themselves.

Does she do it with any other material?  Maybe she just doens't like straw.

:D It's great to know I'm not the only one with mad chickens!!!
Mine like to get at the poo bucket, the fresh bedding, my pockets and anything else they can reach when I'm cleaning them out!
