Please, God - let them grow!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I must remember, after work, to pedal into the local garden centre (before they build houses on it) to see if they can beat Morrisons for price / range on seed potatoes. (I doubt it somehow but it's worth a try).

While the garden centre is there I am going to make use of it (if their prices don't make me laugh)... once gone it will be a 6 mile cycle to the next nearest garden centre out of town.  :(

Morrisons.... I think they will survive without my custom for another year.

I should hope they do for that price!

In another thread Ivor Backache reported that out of 6 kilos of seed spud he had 114 seed. That's 19 to a kilo - 97p at Wilko's!

That was for Pentland Javelin. My other seed potatoes are for 6kgm:
Kestral 75; Desiree 63; and Maris Piper 64. All bought from Kings. They are all labelled as Scotish seed and classified. More expensive perhaps but the real thing.

Are all the potatoes that you find so much cheaper equally labelled and classified or are they the remnants?  They are afterall 'cheapy' shops. If it is cheapness you want go to the supermarkets and buy their spuds, because all potatoes are basically 'seed'.

Motivator, did you buy all that rhubarb?

They only had two left this morning, but I bought them and also 40 red baron onion sets for a quid, and a few rooster seed potatoes too, (also for squid)  There were five I think but I really like rooster potatoes so if they work out at some vast expense per kilo, well hey, never mind eh  8) 8)

Thanks for the heads up everyone  :D :D

We had to go into town today so dropped into Wilkos and Morrisons...

In Wilkos:
Bought 6 pks of seeds for £3.00 - that's the carrots and spring onions sorted! (3 for £1.50)

Cougette seed looked good but 6 seeds in a pk at 3 pks of anything for £2.50 so will sift through last years unsed packets first.

Shallots and onion sets looked good so was tempted - good price... but can't remember exactly what right this minute!

Potatoes - again looked good but will go to the garden centre as I'm told theirs are in stock and they have a huge range again - I can buy as few or many as I want.

Morrisons - no potatoes that I could see - some onion sets but even at £1 not such good value as Wilko as the volume was not so great.

Both places had rhubarb.... but I have plenty seed grown plants from the year before last )Just how much rhubarb can you eat each season?)

I do hope our garden centre survives with all this competition and pressure to build on their land!!

Thanks for the tip off - without the advice I would have missed the good prices!  ;)

I decided that this year the only main crop spud I would bother with was Sarpo Mira as we get such a lot of blight, I tried 5 garden centres (by phone) and none had them so I have had to buy online or drive to Cheltenham and back, round trip of 80 miles

Bought them online ::)

I thought they were a T&M exclusive thing ... so I doubt you'll find them outside of T&M retailer.

Im trying Setanta for the same reason, also had to order online. Locally theres a very poor choice, if its not Charlotte, Maris Piper, Pentland Javalin or Rocket you're out of luck.

Our local nursery has them.

Have a look at this list from our local. No Setanta, though.

Still listed as T&M exclusive on their www site http://www.thompson-morgan.com/potatoes1/product/zww5119/1.html

I've checked my not so local garden centre, they have sarpo axona listed with is also shown as a T&M exclusive.... I think they're a T&M stockist though.

No doubt obtained through T & M, but how can T & M justify £4.89 plus post for 20 tubers, when mine were £1 a kilo? (Total order was over 10 kilos, otherwise still only £1.25 a kilo).
