Eglu.

Phew !!!  I cannot afford one of them.

Was looking at about £100.00 - £150.00 max.

Thanks

Eglu will last for 20 years or even longer.  Resale value is very high.

Hi again Gary, I would give them another house (perhaps you could partition the coup of into 2 seperate sections), as the ducks will sleep on the floor and get pooped on from above

If you're short of time to start DIY from scratch and are budgeting 100- 150 the perhaps a decent garden shed and a little wire netting would be better to get you started. You'd need a nest box, perches and (maybe) a pop hole, but these would take a couple of hours and peanuts to fit. After that you could improve or extend.

We have one of thoses coops and to fit our four girls in I had to do a few modifications.  Replaced the perch with a  longer one running across the coop, extended the run, changed the flooring, drilled some ventilation holes and a few other bits and bobs.  The standard run is not enough for one hen nevr mind 3 to 4 as advertised and the wood is poor quality.  Our girls only sleep in it and on the odd occasion are in there for a few hours, which is why I extended the run, but the rest of the time they are free range.

May be worth you having a look her as its not that far from Bristol;   http://www.anniehallspoultry.co.uk/chickens/

We bought our girls from her and they are very good.

Annie has just started making her own houses too, as well as stocking good range of Forsham arks. Worth popping down there to have a look around, plus her new shop has just opened ;) :)

I did see this on Ebay, it has had good feedback and was wanted you thoughts.

The only bad feedback was delays and parts missing.

Look out for a second hand eglu!
I got my cube, run and lots of other stuff for £300, this was after I bought the same coop you are looking at - it was total rubbish  :tongue2:, hence I bought a cube. The ebay coop swells up, it takes up moisture like a sponge, and then you can't open the doors. Avoid like the plague. A 2nd hand eglu will never warp and can be scrub clean with ease. Have a look on the Omlet club pages they have a section with people selling second had omlet stuff. ::)
Failing that, I had a local man who made me a bespoke wooden house for some of my old flocks of hens years ago, that was very good, (the cube is better though ;)). Found him at the local livestock market - might be worth a try?

This is an add from Omlet Club for sale pages today.

'Hi (white chicken) my owners want to buy us a larger home but they can only do that if we can sell our current home. We currently reside in a green Eglu just under 18 months old complete with run to keep the beasties out  They bought us the winter shade along with summer one and we are selling it complete with food and water containers. They are asking for £150.00 and our residence is in the Norfolk countryside.'

You can always post a wanted add too!

this looks as though it may be the cheap fall apart job as well. Also, ideally, the perches should be higher than the nest box(es)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!

hi! weve got the one highlighted above.  We moved th perches (wasnt that easy though) to make them higher and put the whole house on legs and added a ladder.  We gave it all a good coating of pet friendly cuprinol and we are really pleased with it and it looks nice and traditional too.   wasn't difficult to put together from being flat packed (my 11 year old helped me) :D

Just wondering why the perches should be higher than the nest box? x

Hens like to roost as high as possible. If the perches are below the nest boxes then they will roost for the night in the boxes. This means all the poo they do during the night will be in the nest boxes, leading to very dirty eggs.
Sets a low standard and fails to achieve it.
