Hi

Hope it's not a stupid question...  but as the subject line asks..  Why should Tatties be earthed up?

1. improves the size and quality of the crop
2. prevents tubers from going green (which makes them poisonous)

So should I 'earth up' to just under the first branch out from the main stalk?

I thought one of the main reasons was to stop the halms from getting killed by frost.

Thanks Aunty - easy to overlook the obvious.  You'd have thought I'd have remembered given that we had a touch of frost last night.

I'd go with the non green tatty bit. We forgot to hill up some Charlotte spuds on Mrs. Digger's plot last year. Nice crop - but all green!!!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
