Yer that looks real nice )

Does it have a big hole in the bottom then?
I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

I had a few failures with my bread machine where the bread rose and then fell flat.  I now use the dough setting and the only hole in the bottom is my backside. :tongue2:

we only use ours to the 'prove' stage as it then 'trips' the whole house .  Have made ciabatta over the holilday period no problem. Ours is only three years old.

MW, do you have a makro card or can you get hold of one, they had my on sale for half price. http://www.morphyrichards.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?Product=48271 I seem to remember it was around £45, I think vat will need to be added but it is well worth the money, mine is nearly two years old now, I was lucky, mine came on a home trial, use it for 6 months then report back, but you get to keep them  :tongue2: loads of options for all kinds of bread, cakes, wicked jam etc. Shop around there must be some bargains to be had somewhere.

I think my Bread Machine is the older version of this one... not so square... Does this one have the paddle that reverses and folds flat? It's great for avoiding loaves with holes in the base.  ;)

Hi Learner
No it don't have a paddle that folds flat etc, I just make do with the hole. To be honest when we cut the butty, we cut it verticle rather than horizontal.

The cut direction sounds sensible... I am sure my machine is a Morphy Richards but it was a great deal cheaper than £99 and we bought it at a discount price. (I say "we" - it was bought for "me" by the family so now I get to stand there loading ingredients at daft times of the very late evening when "someone" announces.... "We need a loaf for tomorrow"... nice bread though.  ;)

Why have I never thought of cutting the loaf 'horizontally' to deal with the paddle hole

Sheer brilliance  :D :D :D

Mine is an old model that makes 2 small squarish loaves side by side (or only 1 if that's all you need). Because the bread sticks to the paddle and the paddle sticks to the 'post' by the time i get the loaf out I have lost about a quarter of the loaf  ::)
If it was just the paddle left in a large loaf I suppose it wouldn't be as much of a problem

I put oil on the little post in mine to stop this happening. :)

I've tried that...I clean the hole out with a toothpick when I wash up and add oil in there as well.
All to no avail :( That's why I've given up and just use the dough setting now, as the m/c does a much better job of the kneading than I can (even with the cat's 'help'  :) )

Oh well, it was worth a try  :)

and as you say, it's the dough making ability that is the most valuable  :nowink:

My Mum has had a Panasonic for years and swears by it.

I too have one and it's not working properly - the loaf only rises on one side.  >:(  I don't want to use it enough at present to find out how much I'd have to pay to get it working again, but can't quite bring myself to ditch it either  ::)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
