Onion sets in Wilkinsons.
« on: January 09, 2010, 14:53 »
My local branch has 3 types of white onions, yellow shallots and red onions in stock and something else.
Bags of 500gms at £1.27.

White onions are Turbo, Sturon and Stuttgart.
Guess the bags have about 100+ in.

Also they had seed potatoes, but I didn't look at these. But early?

Mentioned as they tend to sell out quick.

I set my mobile to remind me to go to Wilkos today to get seed spuds, but no way was I going out in the blizzard today

Even if the weather improves I can't go now till Tuesday afternoon.........will be really  if they're all gone by then. I know they went really quickly last year :(

I have just phoned the local Wilkinsons store for information regarding veg seed etc. They have seed in stock and expecting onion sets and seed spuds in next week. So, it might be a good idea before venturing out in this current weather to give your local store a ring? Your local store's telephone number can be found on their website.

Think I will go to our local Wilkinson's in the next few days to have a look.  Handily I have to walk past Poundland so can check if their garden stock is in yet too.  Happy days  :)

SG6  Is your local Wilkinson's St Albans? If so, might call in next week.
The less time you have, the more becomes available.

I went into my local one today and bought:

Red Onion Set - £1.27
Shallots Set - £1.27
Garlic - £1.98

and some flower seeds 3 packs for £1.50.

I looked at the Seed potatoes that they had in but they only had the MASSIVE bags, £6.97 or something like that, I want a few of a lot of varieties this year so didn't get them but they did look good.

They also had some space for seed potatoes at 97p, about 20 different varieties but I asked the lady on the till and she said that because of the weather their deliveries have been mucked up - so keep an eye out folks!!
I'm a vegetable virgin! All advice offered very welcome!!

HilaryG, No, local one is Hitchin, well the local one I use is Hitchin. Actually one where I live but they aren't quite as big and don't stock the same variety of items.

I have not been into St Albans for a couple of years so not sure if there is one there nor on the size if there is.

Not aware of one at Welwyn, Hatfield, Stevenage although there might well be.

I was told on Saturday they had arrived in the Sheffield wilco shop and by the time I got there I managed to buy the last 3 bags of Sturon - I wanted 4. Hope they get more in, for the price they seem good value.

Cheers SG6,

just popped into Hitchin and got some Sturon sets and Maris Peer second earlies. Wanted Rocket, but they'd all gone :( Apparently they'll keep getting in more deliveries so I'll keep checking.

Nobbie, You could try Letchworth's Wilkinsons. They aren't as big but do stock gardening bits. They may have a bag hanging around up whatever aisle.

You may even get one of the parking spaces directly outside of Wilkinsons door if lucky :D :D :D :D

you've got to love wilko's !   In Southend branch today, I bought a small pack of Charlotte and of Pink Fir Apples, both plenty large enough for a decent sized row :  97p per pack.

I wish Id have nown it was so cheap because ive just got mine from my local garden centre, 10 maris piper and 5 of something else ( the names just gone out of my head, sorry). But I supos it wasnt that expensive, £1.50 for a kilo and 80p for a bag of onions.
If you want to be happy for a short time - get drunk.

If you want to be happy for a long time - fall in love.

If you want to be happy forever - take up gardening!
