All my seeds that need a warm start go on top of the wall units in the kitchen in a poly bag.

They need to be checked regularly as they can really race away and end up spindly and weak. As soon as they are up 1/2" move somewhere with more light and less heat.

Who needs them?

Mr. Tight-Wad's inflated tie handle plastic bag.

Are those from this year? What have you sown so early ? :)

That's actually gone into the cool greenhouse minus the bag - it's caulis. I just stuck the tray in the bag for demo purposes, but in a few weeks I'll be doing the same with tomatoes, peppers etc., but keeping them indoors.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Ahh I see :) Well if you don't mind I'll be doing exactly the same with tomatoes, peppers etc., and keeping them indoors on the office windowsill but I haven't decided if I'm going to use trays or straight into indicidual pots say 3 seeds to a pot and thin the weaker ones. And DD. ,are you going to be continuing with your blog this year ? As its there I picked up all theese useful tips mostly and what time is safe to sow e.t.c - it was great.

Thanks

Ah blog - yes I really ought to, although a lot will be a repeat of last year!

For the last few weeks weeks it would read "got frostbite picking sprouts, managed to harvest carrots parsnips with a pneumatic drill".

I don't mind about repetition :) Same place different year !

Oh and also those black seed modules seem useful as well, where did you purchase them or did they come with plants or something?

Thanks

Got them off ebay 2 years back. Much sturdier than the usual seed tray inserts, should be able to reuse them for years.

Couldn't see them last time I looked, but I'll try again.

I reckon these are the boys. £1.69 for 10 + £1.99 postage. They are NOT the flimsy variety and you don't really need to stand them in a seed tray.

Thanks DD. I will buy them ! Just hope that they are just as sturdy as yours ad  I don't have half size trays to insert them into they will simply stand alone.

They look the same construction with those raised ridges criss-crossing. That's what gives them the rigidity.

Just a few more questions for you DD.   :nowink:

Do you remove the propagator (plastic bags !) once the first seed germinates ?

Is that grow bag compost ?

Thanks
