It may well be worth you joining your local horticultural society if your allotment association does not have a discount arrangement with one of the seed firms.

My local horticultural society has a  joint order scheme with Suttons that gives up to 50% discount on seeds, depending on the size of the total order. There is also 10% discount on things like potatoes, onion sets and sundries. Individual orders are passed to the secretary and are individually delivered and billed but paid through the society. Postage is a nominal £2 regardless size of order.

Ours is only a local village organisation but we still put in an order for £1000 plus. I suspect that some allotment shops also get these discounts but keep some as a fundraiser.

I cannot beat these prices, even in end of season sales.

I know that Kings also have a similar scheme. Who else does?

In the past i've baught all my seed from local garden centres and wilkinsons. can't fault germination levels.
This year though as i've been reading from all the posts, i've been thinking of mail order (until i saw the prices they charge), i do want to grow a pepper cald poblano which i can't find anywhere other than nickys seeds so i will have to order this from them.
But i will once again be buying wilkinsons fine products  :D

I too have had good success with Premier Seeds, and they are pretty cheap, postage cheap too.

Also look at Wallis Seeds, ordering is a bit old school, but some things are greatly cheaper than competitors, e.g.

Sutton BB seeds:

 D T Brown £1.59 for 65 seeds
Wallis £1.58 for 120 - 200 seeds.

Depends what you want, I've used DT Brown, Wallis and Kings this year...

We get our lotty seeds from DT's. On the whole they are good but last year we had problems with the wrong seeds in the correct packet, I was a little suprised to see my greyhound cabbage getting very tall with lots of little cabbages growing on the stalk.

Having popped into my local, Maidstone, Wilcos today,  the seeds are out, and there is an offer on - depending on initial price, 3 packets for £2.50 or 2 for £1.50 (not sure if I've got that the right way round but it seemed a good enough deal)
Paul, Andrew, Kevin, Galen - My parents got bored of normal names in the end!

No help for this season, but in future you might like to keep a lookout in the late-ish Summer for seed sales in your local garden centre.

Usually they go to 50% off, and then 50p/packet, or similar. Obviously the longer you leave it the less choice there is ...

Some seeds (like Parsnips) need to be really fresh, otherwise germination is dire. But in the main they will last 2 or 3 seasons.
