I presume these tapes have a mix of seeds to produce veg for a stew eg. carrots, turnips, parsnip? Sounds a good idea. Where can you buy them?

T&M do carrots and salad leaves as seed tapes...probably others as well.

link

I found that they worked okish but germination took longer, also you are limited variety wise

I've tried the Japanese salad leaves - I'm still waiting - gerination v. sporadic and if you get a bird tapdancing on the row half the bl...y tape comes up !  Also tried oakleaf lettuce - same result - v. sporadic germination - Apart from all that.....fabulous!

I honestly don`t see the point of them. Why not just sow seeds the traditional way?

Quite - Just seems like a ruse to get more money for  less seeds IMHO.

Absolutely. You are going to be growing these plants anyway. It`s just a money grabbing gimmick

On another forum somebody posted how to make your own seed tapes so I thought I'd try it with carrots. What a faff on ! The germination rate was poor and it's so much easier just to put seed straight in the ground. Agree with the others....nothing more than a marketing ploy.
