I like Ambo - great bakers also.

Couldn't get them last year, so I risked some of my own saved ones. Pleased to say my local has them in stock this year.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I like the look of Ambo, but the catalogues can't make up their mind whether they are 2nds or early maincrop.
When did you dig yours DD, can you remember? Cos it would make a difference where /if I can find room for them. I think I'm gonna need a shoehorn to fit everything in this year..........or dig a bit more lawn up ::)  Would be a miracle if I got to the top of the list ???

Taterbase have them down as maincrop.

http://www.dundrynurseries.co.uk/detail.asp?id=191

They were planted as such and lifted with the other maincrop in September.

British Potato council have them down as early maincrop

http://varieties.potato.org.uk/display_description.php?variety_name=Ambo

Being a Desiree/Cara cross, I can't see them being second earlies.

An early maincrop could be classed as a late second early.
I class them as an early maincrop which means they would be ready to harvest before late maincrops such as Pink Fir Apple and Golden Wonder.
Visit my website and view my potato blog and videos.

Charlote fro me.  This year I tried Pink Fir Apple - nice taste but not as good as Charlotte IMO.  However I'd say try it but not a lot.  Cos of their 'interesting shapes'  you can't peel them (or you lose half the spud) and often hard to even get them clean - so too much effort for the cook and very limited what you can do with them.
