Can foxes climb
« on: December 10, 2009, 22:27 »
Hi All, my back garden is surrounded by a six foot wooden fence and is impossible to dig under unless foxes carry pick axes, we have urban foxes do you think they could climb over and get at my chooks and carry them back over the fence-------Fred

Without a doubt! Foxes are very agile, 6ft should be no problem for a fit and healthy fox...sorry

Thanks for the quick reply, i will secure the chooks pop hole as it is safe enough to keep birds in, but a hungry fox may find a way in------Fred

They sure can climb -- they manage to get into my DD's garden, over 7ft fencing no trouble. ;)

Can birds fly?

Yep...

Quite a few urban foxes enjoy the summer sunshine looking down on us from flat roofs!

I can remember spotting one from my third floor student digs in Bristol and watching it snooze on the roof below!  ;)  It often lay there undisturbed while everyone wandered by below. 8)

We had a massive dog fox in the garden this morning. Scared our dippy cat half to death. OH went out to 'rescue' the cat ....

... fox trotted towards (ish) him as it wanted to leave via the drive and OH legged it indoors sharpish.

Who was more scared .. cat or OH  ;)

They can be so very confident - not likely to harm anyone unless completely cornered.

I saw one at the top of the school drive the other evening… he was obviously about to wander in and across what is left of our field – seemed a bit hesitant as we stood looking at each other about four metres apart.

I cycled off to let him think about it..

Those at work are too cocky as far as I'm concerned -- they only lope off at the very last minute and will snuggle up in the veg beds or on top of the compost given the slightest opportunity.

The children love them, except for the first job each morning -- check the footpaths and playground for fox poo  ;)

Some people near us have a large chicken run in a paddock. They fitted an electric cattle fence to it.
