Pear tree pruning
« on: December 10, 2009, 13:29 »
:) I have grown a pear tree in my garden. Last year I cut it back as I was strugling to reach some of the branches. I didn't get as good a crop this year. When should I prune and by how much? :D

I suspect you cut off too many fruit buds!

Prune pear trees in the winter, Take out any branches that cross or are in the way and shorten back the new side growths.

However it is in the nature of a pear tree to grow tall.  Do you need a taller pair of steps?

Cheers,

Gillie
