Eggs under her
« on: May 16, 2007, 10:00 »
Well went out to Yum  this morning and she had booted a few eggs out of the nest so taking this as a sign of how many she knew she could handle.

I have swopped the booted ones for the ones I really want her to hatch and removed the others.

She came out after a fight for her food but she would not go back I had to put her in and shut the door as she had been off them for 25mins and I was worried they would cool too much.  I have put water in her cage and some food so hope she will be ok with that.

Watched Yumm while I was working onthe garden and she was sitting fine and then came out to eat and poo with no prompts from me returning in about 15 mins.

I do not need to intervene, she has it covered and does it to her own agenda, good girl.  She after all is an old hand at it I am the newcomer :-(

"you can lead a horse" etc applies to chickens too obv!!

its great when they work it out  it saves you messing with them and stressing them and in all everybody is happier. glad you realiseed there is a limit to the eggs that a bird can sit a young lad was boasting to me about his bird sitting on eggs i asked how many and his reply 22 yes 22 she was about 6 inches of the floor funny to see but to many for the bantam bird i gave him some advice but its up to him.
good luck
alan
