I have heard of people sowing chilli seed, indoors, in Jan so this might be a possibility if you are desperate to grow something!

end of Jan for me this year, but they do need good light  ;)

Start of Nov for me this year ;)

I've never done this, but might think about starting after Christmas -- you know , those days when you want to go the plot but better not leave the house or you'll be in trouble

Most days are like that for me...usually cries of "what about our garden?" THAT needs doing, never mind your *&%$ing allotment!!

Ah, trouble and strife indeed....

Roll on the spring!!

If you need a quick 'grow something' fix, try sprouting seeds like alfalfa, mungbeans, fenugreek.......

You can buy a special sprouting whotsit, but a jamjar with a clean cloth rubberbanded over the top works just as well. Soak your beans or seeds overnight, drain, then rinse morning and night with fresh water, making sure you drain well.

It's much cheaper to buy the seeds at your local health food shop than buy the special packs seed companies do. Or Indian shops often have very cheap bags of beans and seeds you can sprout.

Easy, cheap and good for you. Use in salads and stir frys  :D

How about a few sweetpeas if you must sow something. Mine are out in a cold uninsulated greenhouse and they're sprouting like there's no tomorrow  :) They don't seem to mind the cold.

Or a pot of peas.

Sow shoulder to shoulder - indoors - and as they grow, nip off the pea tops and chuck into salads or rice during the last 30 seconds fo cooking.
